Up The Gradient

Rows and rows of us
Running to stand still
Peddling nowhere
With the thumping music
Lifting each step
The screens looking down
The madness of the tableau hits
Reminding of the metal boxes
Transporting us from A to B
One at a time
A whole tonne of steel and rubber
To carry 8 stone of flesh and bone
Five miles
The blinding by the salt
Awash in tired eyes
Sends the sights inwards
Time to self search
Question and judge
Up the gradient
Pick up the pace
And chase those unanswerables away
