Climbing Back On To The Page

When the brakes came off
Stabilisers unhooked
I wondered
The fools
Didn’t they know?
Hadn’t they seen?
My silent revolution
Had already set its pace
In those days when fear
Was my given companion
We’d plotted
Fear and I
He knew he’d have to be the hero
Jump out first and be my chute
My fellow prisoner
Daring in his recklessness
Turning out to be the bravest
One of all
And those wheels they spun
Along I careered
Over terrain never walked
Gathering speed
The air blowing the decades of cloth and filth from my bones
Where to?
Anywhere you like
You choose
