A Horse And His Boy

The curve with its marble sheen
A bubble rainbow
Swirling, iridescent
Glimpses him from below lashes
As long as his thumbnail
The weight and depth
Behind the stare
Holds him
And he holds you
Tired and bold
Legs world weary
A weight too much for laying down to bear
Your knowing look
Dumb animal never
Tells him all he need to know
It is the simple things
A full belly
A warm back with the sun darting through the leaves
A heartbeat heavy with the pump of 10 gallons a minute
And cool air on a sweating neck
A life spent well
Needs met
A shared burden
A love unconditional
