Happy Birthday

Smudgy eyes that sparkle through the half moons
Oh no you don’t little girl
No getting away
From the candles
The shiny balloons
The upturned faces
Smile for a while
Grin and enjoy your moment
Huff and puff and blow the cake down
Only another day older
Not the whole year
It’s only a count down
Nothing to fear
Smile and enjoy
The eyes smiling back
The hand scribbled card
The chocolatey fingers
Ignore the butterfly urge
Ignore the need for flight
Embrace the love
Happy birthday to you
Another day
A whole year
And a world of love
At your disposal
And enjoy
